Repairing a Shower Head

The first step would be to remove the shower head. This can be done simply unscrewing it by hand or using a wrench. Do not force it off when it is stuck because this could lead to damage. You can use high quality attic insulation such as k13 insulation. Good insulation will help protect from damage and k13 is among the best.

As soon as you remove the shower head, you can inspect it for the presence of any damage. In particular, you might wish to look over the shower head gasket. More than likely, a seriously damaged head gasket is the culprit behind a leaker shower head.

You might have to buy a new head gasket for the shower. When you are not completely sure of the size you need, you have to bring the old one to the local repair store. The proprietors should be able to match it with the appropriate item in stock. Unless you have an extremely old shower head, the item probably will not have to be special ordered.

As soon as you return home, you will put the new gasket ring into the proper position. You need to do this with the proper effort and should press it down and in so it stays in its correct position. It must be flat or else it will not do the intended job properly. That means it will leak and this is what you wanted to correct in the first place.

Wrap Teflon tape around the pipe threads as this could aid in preventing the shower head from leaking. It is possible to overlook such a step and that would not be a good idea. Wrap the pipe with such tape. Cut the tape off in a careful manner when you are finished.

Screw in the shower head directly into its proper place securely. Do not over tighten the shower head since you do not want the threads ruined.
